Edit a PDF online for free

Click any text in your PDF to rewrite it, or add text wherever you like.

A typo, a date to change, a name or an amount to correct? Click the text in your PDF and rewrite it, just like in a word processor. You can also add text anywhere on the page, without paid software.

How it works

  1. Select the PDF to edit.
  2. Click a line of text and type the correction, or choose “Add text” and click the page.
  3. Click “Save PDF” and download the edited document.

Frequently asked questions

Does the edited text keep the same font?

It is rewritten with the closest standard font (Helvetica, Times or Courier), at the same size, in bold or italics if needed, and in the original color. It may look slightly different.

Can I edit a scanned PDF?

Not the existing text, because a scan only contains images of text. You can, however, add new text on top.

Is the old text really deleted?

By default, it is covered. To make it disappear from the file completely (for example, to remove sensitive information), check “Permanently erase the old text”: the edited pages are then converted to images.

Is my document uploaded online?

No. Editing happens entirely in your browser.

Can I edit a PDF on my phone?

Yes, the tool works in a phone or tablet browser, although a larger screen makes it easier to tap a specific line.

Do I need Adobe Acrobat to edit a PDF?

No. PDFRoll is all you need to correct or add text, for free and without installing anything.

Edit text directly in the PDF

Click a line of text and it becomes editable. Type your correction, move on to the next line or another page, then save. PDFRoll rewrites the text in the same place, at the same size and in the same color, in bold or italics if the original was.

It’s the fastest way to fix a typo in a resume, update a date on a certificate or change an address on a form, without going back to the original document.

Add text anywhere

Choose “Add text”, click where you want and type. You can pick the font (Helvetica, Times or Courier), the size and the color. Handy for filling in a form that has no fields, annotating a document or adding a note.

Truly remove the old text

By default, the old text is covered by the new text. If you’re removing sensitive information, check “Permanently erase the old text”: the edited pages are converted to images and the old text disappears from the file completely. To hide information without replacing it, the “Redact PDF” tool is built for that.

Limitations to know

  • A scanned PDF contains no editable text, only images: you can, however, add text on top.
  • The text is rewritten with the closest standard font, so it may look slightly different from the original.
  • Emojis and non-Latin alphabets aren’t supported for rewritten text.
  • To rework an entire document, the “PDF to Word” conversion is a better fit.
