Get the content of a PDF into a Word document you can edit freely. Paragraphs, text sizes, bold, italics and tables are preserved, and the conversion happens on your device.
How it works
- Select the PDF to convert.
- Click “Convert to Word”.
- Download the .docx file and open it in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs.
Frequently asked questions
Is the layout identical?
The text and its formatting are carried over as paragraphs, and tables become real Word tables. Images and multi-column layouts aren’t reproduced exactly.
Can I convert a scanned PDF?
Yes, in two steps: first run it through the “OCR PDF” tool to recognize the text, then convert the result to Word.
Is my document sent to a server?
No, the conversion happens entirely in your browser. Your documents never leave your device.
Does the file work with Google Docs?
Yes. Upload the .docx file to Google Drive, then open it with Google Docs.
Can I convert a PDF with several hundred pages?
Yes. The longer the document, the longer the conversion takes, but there’s no page limit.
Is the conversion really free?
Yes, with no sign-up, no usage limits and no watermark added to the document.
My PDF is password-protected. What should I do?
First remove the protection with the “Unlock PDF” tool if you know the password, then run the conversion.
What’s preserved in the Word document
PDFRoll reads the text on each page and rebuilds a real Word document, not just an image of the PDF:
- Paragraphs and line breaks, so the text is easy to edit.
- Headings and text sizes, bold and italics.
- Bulleted and numbered lists.
- Tables, turned into real Word tables with their rows and columns.
Images and complex multi-column layouts aren’t reproduced exactly: the goal is text that’s easy to work with, not a graphic copy of the page.
When should you convert a PDF to Word?
- Updating a resume, letter or contract when you no longer have the original file.
- Reworking a report or meeting minutes into a new version.
- Pulling out a table of figures to correct or complete it.
- Copying long passages without retyping the text.
If you only need to fix a typo or a date, the “Edit PDF text” tool is faster: it changes the text directly in the PDF, without going through Word.
What about a scanned PDF?
A scanned or photographed PDF contains no text, only images of pages. Run it through the “OCR PDF” tool first, which recognizes the text right on your device, then convert the result to Word.
Open the file in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice
The resulting file is in the standard .docx format. It opens in Microsoft Word, LibreOffice Writer, Pages on Mac, or in Google Docs after uploading it to Google Drive. No sign-up is required, and your document is never sent to a server.
