Convert a Word document to PDF to email it, print it or upload it to a website. Headings, bold, italics, lists, tables and images are carried over onto A4 pages as real, selectable text, and the conversion happens on your device.
How it works
- Select your Word document (.docx).
- Click “Convert to PDF”.
- Download the resulting PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Are old .doc files accepted?
No, only the .docx format. Open your .doc file in Word or LibreOffice and save it as .docx.
Is the PDF identical to the Word document?
The content and its main formatting are kept, with real text you can select, copy and search. Headers, footers and very elaborate layouts may differ, and fonts are replaced with standard fonts.
Are images and tables kept?
Yes. Images inserted in the document and tables, with their borders, are carried over into the PDF.
What page size is used?
Pages are A4, in portrait orientation.
Can I convert a Word document on my phone?
Yes, PDFRoll works in your phone's or tablet's browser, with no app to install.
Is the conversion free?
Yes, with no sign-up and no watermark added to the PDF.
Is my document uploaded online?
No, the conversion happens entirely in your browser. Your file never leaves your device.
What the tool keeps from your Word document
PDFRoll reads the content of your .docx file and lays it out on A4 pages in portrait orientation. The text in the PDF is real text: you can select it, copy it and search it for a word.
- Headings, plus the document's title and subtitle.
- Bold, italics and paragraphs.
- Bulleted and numbered lists.
- Tables, with their borders.
- Images inserted in the document.
Page breaks fall between two lines, never in the middle of a line of text, an image or a table row.
What may differ from Word
The tool doesn't reproduce Word pixel for pixel: it keeps the content and its main formatting. Headers, footers and very elaborate layouts (text boxes, columns, freely positioned objects) may differ from the original. Fonts are replaced with equivalent standard fonts, serif or sans-serif as appropriate.
If your document must stay exactly identical, for example a graphic design mockup, export it to PDF from Word with “Save As”. For a resume, a letter, a report or meeting minutes, PDFRoll's result works perfectly well.
When should you convert a Word document to PDF?
- Sending a resume or cover letter that will open the same way on the recruiter's end.
- Uploading a document to a government portal that only accepts PDF.
- Sharing a report without it being edited by mistake.
- Converting a file on a computer that doesn't have Word installed, or from your phone.
The Word file is never sent to a server: your browser does the conversion, which matters for a contract or a personal document.
What to do after converting
You can add a signature with “Sign PDF”, number the pages with “Page numbers” or combine several documents with “Merge PDF”. To go the other way and get an editable file back, use “PDF to Word”.
