Send a clean, printable spreadsheet: each sheet of your Excel, LibreOffice or CSV workbook becomes one or more PDF pages, with borders and headers, in portrait or landscape.
How it works
- Select your .xlsx, .xls, .ods or .csv file.
- Choose the orientation.
- Click “Convert to PDF”.
Frequently asked questions
Which file formats are accepted?
.xlsx, .xlsm, .xls and .ods workbooks, as well as .csv files.
Are charts carried over?
No, only the sheet data is converted. The workbook's charts and images aren't carried over.
What if my table is very wide?
Choose the “Landscape” orientation. With “Automatic”, it's selected on its own beyond 7 columns.
Are all the sheets in the workbook converted?
Yes. Each non-empty sheet starts on a new page, with its name as a title when the workbook contains several.
Are Excel colors and formatting kept?
No, sheets are presented uniformly: borders around the cells and the first row in bold on a gray background. The values, however, are carried over.
Can I convert an Excel file on my phone?
Yes, PDFRoll works in your phone's or tablet's browser, for free and with no sign-up.
Are my files sent to a server?
No. Everything happens in your browser: your documents never leave your device.
How your sheets are laid out
PDFRoll reads every sheet in your workbook and places them one after another in the PDF, each starting on a new page. When the workbook contains several sheets, each sheet's name is shown as a title above its table. Empty sheets are skipped.
- Cells are surrounded by borders, like a printed table.
- The first row is set in bold on a light gray background to serve as a header.
- Pages are A4, broken between two table rows, never in the middle of a row.
- The text stays selectable and you can search it for a value.
Choosing the orientation
The “Orientation” menu offers three choices. “Automatic” switches to landscape as soon as the widest sheet goes beyond 7 columns, and stays in portrait otherwise. You can also force “Portrait” or “Landscape”.
A very wide table isn't split across several pages horizontally: its columns are narrowed to fit on the page. If the text gets too cramped, choose “Landscape”.
What isn't carried over
Only the sheet data is converted. The workbook's charts and images aren't carried over, and Excel-specific formatting (cell colors, column widths, print areas) is replaced with a uniform, readable layout. For a very precise printed layout, use your spreadsheet app's PDF export.
It's the displayed values that are carried over: a PDF contains no formulas, so you can share results without exposing your calculations.
Common use cases
- Sending a price list, an inventory or a schedule that can't be edited.
- Attaching a budget or a timesheet to an application.
- Cleanly printing a CSV export from a piece of software.
Your browser reads the workbook and it's never sent to a server. To do the reverse and pull tables from a PDF into a spreadsheet, use “PDF to Excel”.
