Frequently asked questions
Can I rotate just one page?
Yes: enter its number in the “Pages” field. Leave it empty to rotate the whole document.
Which rotation direction should I choose?
“90° clockwise” turns the page clockwise, “90° counterclockwise” turns it the other way, and “180°” turns an upside-down page the right way up.
Does rotating reduce quality?
No, only the page orientation changes. The content isn’t recompressed.
Can I rotate several files at once?
Yes, add several PDFs: you’ll get a ZIP with each rotated file.
Can I rotate a PDF on my phone?
Yes, the tool works in the browser on a phone or tablet, with no app to install.
Are my files uploaded online?
No. Rotation happens in your browser and your documents stay on your device.
My PDF is password-protected. What can I do?
First remove the protection with the “Unlock PDF” tool if you know the password, then rotate the pages.
Choose the angle and the pages
In the “Rotation” menu, choose one of three angles:
- “90° clockwise”: for a page lying on its left side.
- “180°”: for an upside-down page.
- “90° counterclockwise”: for a page lying on its right side.
Leave the “Pages” field empty to rotate the whole document, or enter page numbers and ranges, for example “1, 3-5” or “8-” to go to the end. The rotation is added to each page’s current orientation.
Several files at once
Add several PDFs: each is rotated with the same settings and saved under its own name followed by “_rotated”. You get a ZIP containing all of them. Handy for a batch of scans that were all scanned the wrong way round.
If you specify particular pages, they must exist in every file: a number beyond the last page of one of the documents is flagged as outside the document.
Rotation without quality loss
PDFRoll only changes the orientation stored in the PDF: page content is neither recompressed nor converted to images. The text stays selectable and the file stays about the same size. The rotation is done by your browser, without uploading your documents to a server.
When to use another tool
If the pages to straighten are scattered and you don’t know their numbers, “Organize PDF” is more convenient: you see the thumbnails and rotate each page with one click. To crop margins after rotating, use “Crop PDF”.
And if a scanned document is both upside down and out of order, start with “Rotate PDF” to straighten everything, then put the pages back in order with “Organize PDF”.
